Father Christmas = a reality too hard to bear?

I was a little late in finding out the truth about Father Christmas. I found out whilst with a group of friends and a friends mum, it had never crossed my mind to doubt the fairy tale I'd been told.
I was terribly upset and the Christmas after that was not the same again.
How did you find out? Was it bad?

I just eventually realised it when I was about 10. No big deal; I just grew out of the idea.

I got in trouble for yelling "SANTA DOESN'T EXIST!" whilst irritably standing in a queue in a supermarket the day before Christmas Eve, when I was about that age (well my mum told me to shush).
