Dean Robinson, artist and owner of Art Bead Crochet, http://artbeadcrochet.com draws on over 30 years of creating original wearable art in media as diverse as crochet, knitting, needlepoint, weaving, and quilting.  His works have been shown in the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, and currently at the Florida Craftsmen Gallery in St. Petersburg, Florida. We offer distinctive, handmade, bead crochet bracelets, neclaces, earrings and ornaments to complement your designer daytime or evening wear.  Each piece is hand-crafted using quality materials that will complement your couture ensemble.

Artist’s Statement

My interest in bead crochet began a few years ago when we retired and moved to Florida.  Our retirement home was smaller than the one we had in Upstate New York so I didn’t have the same amount of room for the crafts in which I had been engaged.

After reading a book on bead crochet, you could say I was hooked [pun intended].  I’ve crocheted for many, many years but not with beads.  And now I’m starting to experiment making fabric beads to incorporate into my work.

My work is presently focused on jewelry.

All of my pieces are one-of-a-kind.  I never get tired of experimenting with the endless combinations of color, shape, and texture.  That’s what keeps the ideas coming and that’s what keeps it alive and exciting for me and hopefully for those who purchase my work.

Beads are a passion I’m lucky to have.

About the Author

Artist background

Since early childhood Mr. Robinson has been deeply interested in every aspect of the fiber arts. As a child living with his Danish grandparents Mr. Robinson learned the arts of crochet, knitting, and stitchery, along with learning all about knotting from his six sea-going uncles. From his Scotch-Irish grandparents on his father’s side he was taught garment making, what is referred to now as “wearable art.” These skills have remained with him until today.

Presently Mr. Robinson is involved in beading, collage, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and wearable art.

Gallery experiences

For 18 years Mr. Robinson was an exhibiting member of the Potomac Craftsmen Gallery, a fiber arts cooperative gallery located in The Torpedo Factory Art Center, Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

His work has also been exhibited at: Springwater Fiber Workshop, Alexandria, Virginia; Strathmore Hall Arts Center, Rockville, Maryland; and Florida Craftsmen Gallery, St. Petersburg, Florida.
