Why I love my Dad
You know those kinds of people who do things that hugely aggravate you, yet simultaneously make you smile? Well my Dad epitomises one of those kinds of people very often.
I absolutely love and hate my fathers pathetic yet fantastically successful attempts to embarrass me in public. The most recent example took place in a T-mobile shop…after spending 40minutes rejigging my contract and deciding on a new phone with the help of a young kind shop assistant, my dad got bored and decided to embarrass me. ‘Did you know she has dropped many a phone down the toilet in her time?' The poor young lad had no idea how to react to this. Of course I denied such accusations, but the colour of my face suggested otherwise…oh dear, cringe ‘haha' okay dad, very funny, now lets wrap this deal up and get out of here. But he couldn't leave it at that could he and felt the need to fill the awkward silence so continued: ‘There was wee in the toilet she dropped it down, so, you wont believe this…' Oh no, please, please don't say- ‘she rinsed the thing under the tap!' Double, triple, quadruple massive cringe.
A phone conversation with my father is a painful yet magnificently amusing experience. You need to experience it to understand. Lets just say, when someone rings you and by their unresponsiveness appears to think that you rang them.. and manages to pause and say ‘ermmmmm' every two seconds, it becomes somewhat frustrating andhardwork. You have to laugh to keep sane.
Watching TV with my dad. My Dad loves a bit of comedy, and if you are ever privaleged enough to watch some with him, as I often am, you best invest in some anti-wrinkle cream…He roars with laughter at everything. His laughter is infectious. He has me in just as many, if not more stitches than himself. He knows how to appreciate a good joke. I cant think of anyone I would rather watch a bit of comedy with than him.
His cooking. My mum recently went back to university and started a job as a primary school teacher which meant that the past few years have required my dad get a bit domesticated…I don't live at home the majority of the year which means I do not get to experience his famous dinners on a regular basis, unlike my mother who does daily. I envy her….sensed the sarcasm yet?Blesss. He tries, but when dinner is either spag bol, chilli, curry, more spag bol or a terrible excuse for a sunday roast, I do not feel that I am missing out. His roasts consist of about 2 potatoes (because he never cooks enough) maybe a piece of broccoli, a ton or chicken, some watery gravy and perhaps some stuffing or ayorkshire - he always forgets one or the other. Splendid. He also finds cooking very stressful bless him; I always hear him cursing when he again drained the water from the vegetables down the sink when he meant to save it for the gravy…. Also, contributing to his culinary skills is his conviction that baked beans compliment every meal going. Dad, they really don't. Oh and don't get me started on his hilarious food shops. He's like a kid in a candy shop. He never comes home with essentials, rather littlejems he has spied along his way such as ribs form the hot counter and old school desserts. Furthermore, he always, without fail, manages to forget to buy kitchen roll and seems to buy pork pies every week despite no one in the household liking them…Bless. He's learning.
His dancing. No, its not that old man boogying one might be conjuring up in their mind. No. its far more extraordinary than that….Its not so much the bent knees, elbow swinging, head shaking that never fails to shock me, but his facial expressions. My Dad seems to think that when dancing you need to purse your lips, screw up your face and adopt wide ‘physco eyes' throughout. Oh and make strange pirate noises. Funniest of all is when he is ‘dancing' under the impression only immediate family are nearby when in fact my brothers mate is sitting across the hallway, jaw to the floor, stifling hysterics and being mentally scarred. But Dad, even though your dancing is horrifically cringe-worthy, please do not change how you dance. I love it and I love laughing at it.
I love the fact that he, even though fully aware that I am now 20years old still often tries to humour my ex Panda obsession. Anything panda related, aTV documentary, news paper snipping, teddy bear or story is sent my way. I have a brilliant picture message of him standing next to a massive stack of panda teddys from ikea with the biggest proudest grin on his face. He gets more excited by pandas than me these days!
I absolutely love and appreciate the his never-failing loyalty when I am drunk cold, walking home after a night out and text him asking him to pick me up at 5am. He does always does, and he never complains.
I am going to end this post with one of my favourite quotes from Captain Corelli's Mandolin said by Pelagia as she mourned her Dad's death:
‘he was the only man I've loved who loved me to the end, and never bruised my heart, and never for a single moment failed me'
I think that this quote is beautiful, and hope that most people can say this about their dad. It is true that my Dad will probably be the only ever man never to deeply upset me or fail me, and will do absolutely anything in his power to avoid such happening to me. Reading this quote really reminded me of this, and the fact that no mans loyalty in the world will match up to that of my fathers. I hope that he knows how much I appreciate him.

i feel really bad :S:(?
i was at an amusement park (just a wee one that stays for a month not a big one like disney it and travelers work at it) i stole a teddy for the fun of it but the guy came over and took it off us. i feel really bad, is it that serious?
Yes i think it is bad. But you know it is that's why you are asking. You're guilty. But I'm glad to note that that you sound sorry . No i'ts not that serious but you've got to stop doing this even as a joke. It may become a habit, then that's a serious one.
